Coconut and Flower Hair Oil July 24, 2007

Coconut Hair Oil

Makes 1 bottle

Prep Time: 10-15 minutes

Materials:
- Small saucepan
- Measuring cups
- Wooden spoon
- Airtight container

Ingredients:
1 cup coconut oil
4 drops of Rose/Jasmine oil
½ cup mixed flowers such as rose, jasmine and hibiscus

Method:
- Pour the coconut and rose oil into a small saucepan.
- Heat the oil over a stove till the oil bubbles slightly.
- Let the oil cool for a little bit, then add the flower petals and stir well.
- Let the mixture sit for a couple of hours or a day.
- Keep in an airtight container.

Makes 1 application

Prep time: 10 minutes

Materials:
- Chopping board
- Knife
- Mortar and pestle
- Teaspoon
- Mixing bowl

Ingredients:
½ cup plain yoghurt
½ cucumber, pounded
1 teaspoon coconut oil

Method:
- Place the yoghurt into a mixing bowl.
- Slice the cucumber and pound it up in a mortar.
- Then squeeze out the cucumber juice before putting it into the mixing bowl.
- Add 1 teaspoon of coconut oil, then mix altogether.
- Spread on any part of the body and leave for about 15-20 minutes, then rinse with warm water.

 

“Fruit For the Hair” Natural Shampoo July 24, 2007

Fruit For The Hair

Makes 6 applications

Prep Time:
20 minutes

Materials:
- Mortar and pestle
- Tablespoons
- Teaspoons
- Airtight container

Ingredients:
4 tbsp shikakai powder
2 tbsp green gram powder
1 tbsp fenugreek powder
1 tbsp curry leaves, dried and pounded
1 tbsp hibiscus tea, pounded

Method:
- Combine Shikakai, fenugreek, green gram, curry leaves and hibiscus tea.
- To use, add 1/2 cup of water to 2 teaspoons of powder mix, until the mixture is almost creamy in texture before use.
- Rub into wet hair to lather. Set for 5-10 minutes, and then rinse with cold water.
- The dry powder can be kept in the jar inside cupboard until needed.

Coconut Face & Body Scrub

Makes 1 application

Prep Time:
30 minutes

Materials:
- Mixing bowl
- Measuring cup
- Teaspoons
- Wooden spoons
- Mortar and pestle

Ingredients:
1/4 cup raw almounds, pounded
1/4 cup grated coconut with skin
2 tsp cinnamon powder
2 tsp cardamam pods

Method:
- Pound the raw almonds into fine powder, then pour into a mixing bowl.
- For a stronger, tangier aroma, you may want to pound the cardamam pods.
- Add the remaining ingredients into the bowl and mix thoroughly with a dry wooden spoon or fingers.
- Use the mix once combined.
